I’d Rather Be Some Other Place

Pot Stickers

I’ve had a cold all week, but even with that I felt well enough to make something I’ve been wanting to make for a while. I know from the pictures it looks super odd.

Pot Stickers

I made pot stickers and a spicy soy mustard dipping sauce.

It was so worth it. I even made enough to have some for lunch today, but I’m wishing I would have made enough to last me all day. Pot stickers are honestly one of my all time favorite things and super easy to turn into a vegan dish.

I know my filling looked kind of boring, but I didn’t want to add too much to the filling since I’ve been feeling like crap. Mine was just white bean, onion and green pepper. I did add a lot of spice to it though: garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, ginger powder and a little sage.

Today on the other hand the food wasn’t that exciting.

I cooked some pasta and made a quick sauce for it which was very light and tomato based. I had some mushroom, onion, garlic, green pepper and chunks of tomato in it and blasted it full of spices.

When I made something like that pasta I feel like I gave up on life. haha. I didn’t, but that’s just what it feels like to me when it’s something that takes no time to make and no real effort. Maybe that’s a sign that I really do enjoy cooking.

While I’m taking about cooking, I am still working toward that cooking/baking blog! No I won’t give up this blog at all, I enjoy boring people about my boring life. haha. ^_^

I’m not going to buy the domain until about mid-July, so I’m just in the process of getting a list of names gathered. Once I have a nice list gathered I’m going to be asking for help with picking a name out – one that really reflects me. ^_^ I have been suggested a few names that I really do love, that’s another reason I’ll be asking people to pick a name from the list. I’m super excited for this project to start.

What is some first content that I should feature on the blog?

One of the first things I’m going to add to the site is a blog entry about egg substitutes and explain which is best for what you’re doing. I think that’s a question a lot of people who are new to a vegan lifestyle often wonders. No you don’t have to go buy that expensive egg substitute, you already have some things you can use in your kitchen.

Another thing I was considering about doing in a post about tofu and what the different names mean – extra firm, firm, etc. I know it’s kind of confusing to figure out what to buy, but once you really know a little about the meanings behind the words it’s so simple.

As far as recipes go, I have no idea what the first recipe will be that I’ll be posting. Maybe I’ll post the pot sticker recipe, it gives me another reason to make more! ^_^ I did realize I’ll have to start measuring when I cook now. haha. Yes, I’m one of those people who don’t measure.

But I grew up watching my grandma in the kitchen and I don’t even think she owned a measuring cup. ^_^

I will also feature my grandma’s raisin cookie recipe – vegan recipe! The cookie recipe is the same I use for my cherry filled cookies. So the base cookie recipe can be used for any kind of filled cookies.

Aside from working on getting ideas for that together I’ve been doing a lot of sleeping.

Yesterday I woke up at 7am and had the bright idea of taking night time mads. Well I did fall asleep…and slept well last 1pm. >_< I still felt like crap though.

During the day I’m not that bad, but it seems when I get ready for bed, that’s when the coughing starts. I’m just so ready for this cold to go away.

Being sick has also put all my projects on hold. I have zero sewing done this week, I’ve only been table to cut things out. Once I cut things out I just want to go bed to bed. Today though I cut something out that’s simple to sew so I’m hoping by the end of the weekend I’ll have a couple finished and up in my shop.

Even though I’m sick I am going out of the house tomorrow. I’m going to go to the library book sale. Every summer the local library has a book sale to get rid of out of date books, they take a donation for whatever you take to go towards buying new items for the library. I’ve been going to the sales for at least five years and always come home with some good finds.

This year though I’m limiting myself to one bag. Last year I had three bags. I’m really only looking for cook books this year, and possibly some books for my niece.

  1. Wow that filling looks awesome. I made a filling similar to that for my stuffed peppers the other night. 🙂 I’m excited to see your oatmeal raisin recipe. I love oatmeal cookies. For your cough, have you tried slippery elm tea?

  2. I saw you were making pot stickers on Facebook the other day, I really want to make them too, myself. I love them and never think to make them (but I’m always looking for new things to make in the kitchen). I’m with Christine, I also can’t wait to see your oatmeal raisin cookie recipe, I would love to try a vegan version of oatmeal cookies, too! I love how you and I both share a love for oatmeal cookies, haha, they’re definitely the best kind!!

I hope you’re feeling better from the cold you have, too! I hate colds, especially when it gets warmer out during the summer and all.
