Mini-Vacation

I’m home and getting back into the swing of things after a 5 day mini vacation from life and work. Let’s just say, I’m not that excited to be back to work. I liked having stress free days, but the stress is all back now.

Anyways, my mini vacation included C2E2 and Chicago.

C2E2

What is C2E2? It’s a convention that’s all about pop culture. Meaning, it’s not totally focused on Anime and the like. So it’s a great convention for those who just like pop culture but not totally into anime. This was my first C2E2, but not my first convention. It is the biggest I’ve been that, that will end in July with Sand Diego Comic Con.

We only went Saturday, meaning we were there for the biggest day of the convention. Easier for people who work and don’t want to take a day off to go. So it was crowded. I am not a person who gets along in a crowd very well. Not only does anxiety kick in, but people are rude and I end up getting stepped on or hit in the face with a bag or something. People who are 5ft, shut up about being short. I wish I was 5ft because people who notice that I’m there and wouldn’t hit me like happens.

Aside from the general crowd issues, I had so much fun. My wallet did not. This was the first big thing Jason and I had been to together, so it was special too.

There were a lot of great cosplays and I didn’t take a lot of pictures due to the crowds and by the time I seen something great they would be gone. Well, there’s always next year.

Since it’s a pop culture convention that means horror is included. That also means I blew too much money. Okay in reality I didn’t spend a lot on little odd things. I did spend $120 on a beautiful corset. I don’t have pictures of it with me, but it was worth it. Plus, steel boning in it makes it all worth that amount. I’m going to use it as part of my pirate costume this year for pirate day.

Prints (or art in general) is my major weakness and I’m sure all the artists were happy to see me.

I bought this My Little Pony drawing for my niece. The artist signed it. I’m going to frame it so she can hang it up in her room.

I kind of lost my shit over this. I love the original Friday The 13th films and through that I’ve become a fan of Kane Hodder in general – yes he acts without costumes.

While walking through the many booths of artists there I came across a table with the Puppet Master comics on it. This table belonged to the guy who drew the cover art. I bought them and he even signed them for me.

All of these prints are from the same artist. I fell in love with them as soon as I seen them.

This print I couldn’t walk away from. I love A Clockwork Orange (yes, including the book). This fun poster by the artist Robert Luedke is one of the major finds for me at the event.

Now we’re getting into the non art things. How could I turn down a Hellrasier rubik’s cube?!

Chicago

On Sunday we did a lot of going through the city, which means I spent more money on things. I was able to find a couple vintage shops, which were great.

Still Here…

It’s been a LONG time since I’ve wrote anything and honestly I miss blogging like I used to. I just ended up getting busy with things and never found the time to do it like I used to. I’m hoping, maybe next week, I’ll be able to get somewhat back into the habit – we’ll see!

I’ve been closing at work, so that means I end up sleeping a lot during the day. That just takes all the fun out of everything. Like tomorrow I work 6pm to 2am and Saturday I work 8pm to 3am. I do like closing, but my body doesn’t like when I have to change between a regular “lunch” shift and closing.

With that said, this isn’t going to be a super long post and it will mostly be pictures. I just wanted to sit down and post SOMETHING.

Engagement Pictures

My brother is getting married next year – October, I think – so they asked me to do a couple pictures for them to use as their engagement pictures. It’s been a long time since I’ve been asked to do pictures for anyone, so it was kind of fun to get back to doing something like that.

They went to a park for the pictures. It was kind of chilly, which sucks and the wind ended up picking up because not long after we finished it ended up raining.

Shoes & River

Washington, D.C.

Last month we spent a weekend in DC! It was the first time I ever had a chance to go. It was around a six hour drive (one way). It was cold, but so worth it. I’m hoping to go back sometime within the next year. There’s just so much to see and so much to eat!

I have a page full of the pictures I took during the DC visit!

I work a lot.

Work

I know I’ve been a little MIA over the past few months. Only blogging once every few weeks. I feel bad for doing that. Honestly I haven’t felt that I have anything worthwhile to blog about. Well nothing that is major anyways. My life has been pretty boring, all I’ve really been doing is working – and when I get a good day off I spend it with my boyfriend.

Work is still work. Still working toward that management thing, which means three weeks of training at another store. That is something that scares me, going to a different store with people I don’t know and having to be in “charge” of them. The highlight of all of that going on is the fact that I’ll have a hotel room for those three weeks. So it’s kind of like a vacation with work. haha. At the end of the training though, there’s another test. Yep, lots of tests to be a manager. In the end I’m hoping it’s all worth it.

The Ohio State Reformatory

Last weekend my brother and I visited Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio.

Man people know the prison from films, mainly The Shawshank Redemption. I didn’t want to visit due to the movies that has used the building. I wanted to visit because I just like seeing old buildings in general. There’s just something I love about stepping into an old building, stepping back in time.

The Ohio State Reformatory

The tour we took was self guided. This meant we could take our time and look at things for as long as we wanted. There are arrows through the building that you just follow. The tour like this was great because I could take my time with pictures and not feel rushed to keep up with the group.

The Ohio State Reformatory

In total I think we spent around 2 hours (or more). There were other groups of people touring it too. The only downside is the kids.

Let me make something clear, I think taking kids (early teens and on) to tours and building like this is a great thing. Teaching them history through visiting a place will stick with them. Now that I said that, make sure you kids respect the other people there. The kids who were there were just running wild – seriously, they were running through the building. I found it very disrespectful to other people there as well as the building.

Making Things

5

On May 22nd my niece turned 5. We had her for the weekend, so it wasn’t just one day of stuff. Haha.

On the 21st we took her to Chuck E. Cheese. It was a long day. haha. Just so many people there in general. Somehow I was talked into buying coins, which led to me playing games.

Now on her actual birthday she wanted to go to the zoo. Zoo’s are horrible places and I didn’t want to go, but she asked my boyfriend and I to go with her & my brother. I was just incredibly sad the whole time I was there. Of course since my brother doesn’t have a camera, I had to take pictures.

Louisville

Louisville, KY
I know I’ve been super silent lately, but I’ve had things going on and just haven’t felt like writing or doing much of anything. I’m hoping to have that turned around now.

Over the weekend (April 8th – 10th) I went to Louisville (KY) with my boyfriend, brother & his girlfriend. It was such a good time and well honestly I needed a weekend away from everything. With that said, my wallet is still angry about the trip.
