I Want To Wake Up, In A City That Never Sleeps

Happy 2014!

Wow…did I really say that? 2014 already? Hard to believe!

So what are my memories from 2013 that will live on into 2014?

One of the major things would be the first time I met Jason. I was so nervous that he wouldn’t see anything in me and would really want nothing to do with me. We met at the end of July and it’s already January. I still get those butterflies too.

My niece finding a love for singing – basic children’s songs – has to make the list. It’s funny because she has a bit of a lisp, and the songs don’t come out like they should. She replaces ‘I’ with ‘Me’.

In 2013 I tried (vegan) sushi for the first time and have quickly grown a love for it. My favorite favorite favorite is avocado.

I started selling my crafts online [LINK]. It was a long process to get it together and off the ground but I’m glad I put the it together.

Jason and I went to our first concert together – Sundowner – and I’m pretty sure he had as much fun as I did.

And through the year I’ve grown closer to friends who don’t live around me. The few friends I’ve grown super close to I know I can trust everything with them and I’m glad they’re in my life to support me and kick me in the ass when I need it.

I know my top memories really are not much compared to others but this year wasn’t very eventful for me. In the end though it was a good year.

In 2014 one of the major things on my list is to open my shop up to international shipping. I haven’t done it yet though because of the high cost it will be and I’m honestly not sure if people are willing to pay so much in shipping for small handmade items. For international readers, would you be willing to pay the high shipping for something that is homemade?

Another thing that’s on the top of my 2014 list is to do a ‘XXX books in 2014’. I know it’s already the 1st and I haven’t made a page or even picked the number of books I want to read. I know every year I expand my creativity but I’ve been lacking on expanding my mind – which I’m highly ashamed to admit. Considering I’ve started reading a book only a few hours ago I think it’s okay to not have a page up for the list of books I’ve read. What number of books do you guys suggest I read? I’ve seen people do 25, 50 and 100 – I just don’t think 25 is too low. I know people are busy with life and studies so I understand .

I do plan to make do a movie challenge though! I know everyone knows how much I enjoy a good film – especially b-rate. So I’m going to challenge myself to watch 200 movies in 2014 – 150 movies I’ve never seen before. This will count both older films and new films. I’m going to have a page for that on here, and I’ll also have a page on TaV [LINK] for it – I’ll also be reviewing the films.

On a sewing note, in 2014 I plan to work more on construction of clothing. I’m 100% self taught so I think it’s something great to work toward. The goal is to understand and get good enough at construction to make myself a knee length coat.

With my little reflection on 2013 and looking forward to 2014 over I’ll most onto what I did yesterday and today.

Yesterday I really spent the day laying around and sleeping. I had this great idea to go with Missy to work. She worked from 11pm to 7am. I figured it would be funny with everyone coming from the bars and celebrations. There was one point during the day there was no one there. It was so quiet. But that was after the bar crowd was there. One table was eight people. One of them – adults – thought throwing food was a good idea. The lady should be happy I didn’t get up and punch her when whatever she was throwing hit me!

One of the guys that works at a local bar made it in around 5am or so when there as no one else there. I talked to him about music – he thought I listened to metal due to my look – and a few random things.

Then around 6am a group of 20 people came in! Yes one table with 20 people! So she had to push tables together and everything. Within a few minutes of them sitting down a table of 10 came in. So we didn’t get out of there until after 8am.

It was well worth it though – I love people watching! And I also was able to find and download a free coat pattern! I’m super excited to look at it and see how much fabric I need so I can start keeping an eye out for fabric on sale for it. I finally was able to load all my books on my tablet. 90% of them are cookbooks or even craft books. I just can’t help myself when I find free cookbooks or craft books. Haha!

I did download a couple apps that my niece can play with. One is making a pizza – she made a pizza for my mom this afternoon…it had carrots, candy canes and strawberries on it. I did download another app for preschool kids but it wasn’t worth it so I deleted it. The other app I’m keeping for her is a finger painting app – okay I might use it too. ^_^

I did break down and get the app of the day for today through amazon called Little Things Forever [LINK – this is the google play link]. I haven’t really played it yet, but I looked at the screen shots and it looks like a lot of fun. My mom is addicted to those hidden object games, so I’m sure if I need help finding one of the objects I won’t have my tablet for a while because she’ll keep playing. haha.

Another app I found is one that helps you find cruelty free products. It’s going to come in super handy for sure. Next time I have wifi I’m going to look for an app that help you pick out vegan foods – when you find something new it just gets so tiring having to read everything that’s in it before you know if it’s okay to buy. An app would just make shopping so much quicker.

Last night I did pay a bill off, then I ordered  something fun for Jason. ^_^ It won’t be here until around the 17th and that’s just going to kill me!

While I was doing bills and shopping I did look at my domain that needs renewed on the 16th – I’m a few cents short to pay it with my credits! And I don’t have enough in the bank because the lowest amount you can add to your account is $10. >_< I’m going to contact them and see if there’s a way around it since it is really just a few cents. I had two domains that needed renewed on that day so I renewed the cheaper one first – which is my photoblog [LINK]. Ugh. It’s just so stupid that they can’t take the credit from my account first then that the rest from my bank account.

Yesterday before going with Missy I finally got my package from Lori – okay I say finally because I’m pretty sure it was at the post office on Monday. Now…picture spam of some of the fun things she sent me. ^_^

Hello Kitty Shoes

Hello Kitty Van’s! If you don’t know, Van’s are the only “daily” shoes I wear. My boots and Mary Janes are both different brands but when it comes to shoes I wear for basic day to day needs it’s Van’s. So Van’s teamed up and did a line of Hello Kitty shoes. Around here I couldn’t find them and Lori found them at an outlet store. They are a bit more roomy than my old ones, but the great thing is I can wear socks with these ones now…wearing no socks makes your shoes yucky and smell bad so I won’t have that problem with these.

Love Shirt

I do love this shirt!

Wild & Free

This sweatshirt is all related to White Wives. They have a song ‘Grow So Wild & Free’. I’m so glad Lori found this and picked it up. It’s a small so it’s big on me, but the right kind of big. I washed it and wore it last night and just wore a tank top under it – so comfy! The fabric is so soft too, I’m going to look up the company that made it and order more sweatshirts from them. And it’s the best kind of fabric too because it is thin enough to wear during a cool spring day as well. Last night I wore it with a pair of pink skinny jeans and I can’t wait to pair it with a pair of black leggings.

Hello Kitty

Yes I’m a Hello Kitty fan. And these made me smile. My niece already took the tennis one. I have the pie one on my desk – the pie smells like cherry too! I’m going to put the artist one on my nightstand.

Hello Kitty

Band Aids, stickers and ribbon! I admit, I will be using the band aids for the right reason. And the ribbon I’m going to save because I want to make a Hello Kitty themed Lolita dress.

Hello Kitty

The package on the left was a mega block Hello Kitty. She came with a lollie pop. The middle is a cute Hello Kitty bracelet. And the last little package is “America The Beautiful”. The state I got was Oregon – so she’s dressed up like a beaver! ^_^

Hello Kitty

And lately some stickers and a notebook. Two sets of the stickers are confetti stickers – which I’ve seen before but never Hello Kitty ones. And the notebook will come in handy. I keep changing passwords and such so I can keep track of them in a notebook finally.

Tonight I did finally do something – aside from lay in bed and ready. I finally started cutting the pieces out for my dress.

Swing Dress

This is the dress I’ll be making. The skirt of the dress will be 18 inches of black & white fabric with red cherries on it – 4 inches of the bottom of the skirt will be solid black fabric. The bodice (top) of the dress will be solid red fabric. The straps are going to be black fabric with red cherries on it. And the belt is going to be solid black fabric. ^_^

To my huge surprise it didn’t take that long at all to cut out and honestly I wanted to start sewing it tonight. Construction of dresses has always scared me and I don’t know why. It’s so simple. I’ve only been making clothing for about three years now and I think in those few short years I’ve come very far compared to where I started. Ever since I started sewing I secretly wanted to have a clothing line. Well that’s a huge dream, so I’ll be happy with making a clothing line just for myself. ^_^ A clothing line with a vintage spin and punk at heart.

I’ve promised myself to hold off on buying back seam stockings until it’s spring – which I’m sure I’ll break that rule soon. Haha.

Is there a time period that you LOVE the clothing from?

As you can see in the dress I do adore the 40’s/50’s. I’m not super girlie at all, but the clothing was just great. I’m not a fan of high waist clothing though – I’m short so it’s just not a good look even if it is clothing made for my body. I do dream of having a pair of high waist sailor shorts though. With that said the clothing from the 60’s – especially the hippie clothing, I love that too.  All of the clothing I wear though will always have a punk influence to it. This dress I’m making is full of red and black – but also reflects my love for rockabilly. Cherries are greatly used within the rockabilly community. The first time I wear the dress I will pair it with a pair of fishnet stockings and combat boots.

Fashion shouldn’t be something to be afraid of, even if you don’t know anyone who embraces the kind of fashion you do. Fashion is a way to show the world who you are without having to say a word.

With all of that said, I think it’s time to get in bed. It’s already past 1am.

And You Look Into My Eyes

Well, I know I had a great weekend. Except for Friday.

Friday was spent driving around the county because my brother doesn’t think things through. Which has come to be normal. Ugh.

Saturday though Jason and I went to a benefit a couple of his friends (and one of their girlfriends) was working at. It was fun. ^_^

After the benefit we went to downtown Kent to look at some of the shops. All I can say is I hope we have a chance to go back when I have some money on me so I can grab a couple things for Christmas.

The one shop is called Off The Wagon [LINK]. It’s this great little place that has…a little of everything. I seen a lot of things that would make great Christmas gifts. Not to mention I seen a few things that I wouldn’t mind having.

We had to grab something to drink, so we went to Tree City Coffee [LINK]. They have cases of sweets that all looked so good. But we were just there to get drinks. I got a small black tea – so good.

Then we stopped at this place that only sold alcohol. I’m not a big drinker, but it was just cool to look at all the bottles. That was until I seen pumpkin wine. I’m kind of kicking myself for not getting  a bottle. I want to look around here to see if I can find any.

We then met his friends at one of their homes, then went out for dinner with them. We went to The Winking Lizard Tavern [LINK]. Great food! Though their menu is kind of small if you’re looking for vegetarian (or vegan). I got a roasted veggie wrap and could only eat half.

After dinner we went back to his friends place and played a card game. We were there until about 1:30am or so and we went back to Jason’s.

Today we watched Escape From Planet Earth [LINK]. It was a cute movie, but I wish it was funnier then it was.

Before he brought me home he put some ice cream in a container. We stopped at a fast food place and for two large root beers, no ice & half food. Then we put the ice cream in our cups and have root beer floats! ^_^ It was the cutest thing ever.

Tonight I worked a bit on my Halloween costume. I figure tomorrow I’ll be totally finished with the sequins. My goal is to get it totally finished with the costume by the end of the week. Which I should be able to do. It just takes a while to get the sequins done since you’re doing them one at a time. Plus the ones I’m using now I have to sit and pick out of a pile of mixed colors…so that just adds even more time.

This week is going to be a headache for me…I’m pretty sure of it. If all goes well I’ll finally be able to open my Etsy shop mid-week. Well that’s my goal anyways. Right now though I’m just mainly going to have earrings and keychains. I’m not sure what I should put up for sale right off the bat…any ideas?

I was thinking about doing up a few scarves, even some that are two sided.

I have a headache, so I think that means I should lay down.

Sundowner

On the 26th I went to Cleveland to see Sundowner [LINK] with Jason and a few of his friends. When Jason had first mentioned I did take a listen to a song, what can I say I’m a sucker for acoustic music – as long as it’s good acoustic. And the show was at a venue I had never been to – Now That’s Class [LINK].

I had an awesome time at the song, even though I really only knew one song by heart. As usual I took a load of pictures so I had to share a few. I have the rest uploaded at my photo gallery, which is still under construction.

Yep, photo gallery. It will be so much easier to upload pictures on there and keep them up to date then it is the way I have pictures uploaded on here. My only question is what categories should I have? Right now I only have the Concert section up and done. I was considering making the main categories: Concerts, Nature, City, Countryside, Animals. There will be subcategories within those.

Aside from working quietly on the photo gallery I’ve also been busting my ass on my Halloween costume. Oh yeah! And I can finally share what I’m going to be. I’m going to be a belly dancer! ^_^ The idea sounded fun so I figured why not. I’ve made everything for my costume as well. Right now I’m in the middle of doing all the beading on the top. The colors are two shades of green and then blue. Right now I’m adding the blue beads to the top, then I have some clear ones I’m going to add on…and last of all is finishing/fixing the sequin work on the top. The other headache is the belt. On accident I put the hooks too close tot he edge so it doesn’t fit as it should.

I also have an apron I’ve been working on. The color combo is black, white & hot pink. It’s super cute and I think the person I’m making it for is going to love it. I have leftover fabric from the apron so I’m going to either make something like a tote bag or matching pot holders to go along with it all. I’m just not sure. I do have to re-cut one piece of the apron, but it won’t take that much fabric at all to re-cut what I messed up. I just didn’t measure the length right, but considering where I was cutting the fabric I’m surprised I wasn’t further off then I was.

I still have the goal of at least having an Etsy shop open by the end of the month. I haven’t given up on that yet, it’s just taking me a while to do it because I want to make sure the pictures for it are all great and everything runs smoothly with it. I also want to have a few envelopes on hand before I start selling so I don’t have to run out to stores to try to hunt them down.

This weekend started off with watching Jason and his friends play Magic [LINK]. People think I’m telling a lie when I say I like watching people play (even video games). I’ve always been a people watcher though.

After the gathering was over we cuddled and he had me watch the first episode of Continuum [LINK]. Yeah, it was new to me since I don’t really watch any channel side from Food Network [LINK] anymore. But it was a good show, I’m just not really into shows with that kind of storyline I guess.

Sunday afternoon we watched ABC’s Of Death [LINK]. Loved it! It was the first time we both had seen it. I really can’t wait for 2 to come out…but that’s not until next year! =_=

We went out for a late lunch after, then he brought me home. I’m always bummed when I know it’s time for me to come home, but it just makes me excited to see him when I see him the next time. I do think it’s good that we don’t see each other every day. It makes the time we’re together even more special.

Taking A Risk For The First Time

Listening To: Sweet Nothings by Truth Be Told

Thursday was loads of fun! Seriously, it was the best thing I’ve had out in a long time. Who knew dressing up like pirates and doing a basic pub (well bar) crawl could be as much fun as it was!

I did tell Jason before it all started that the idea of the whole night took me so far outside of my comfort zone it wasn’t even funny. But I’m glad he took me out of my comfort zone.

When it comes down to it every time he pushes me outside of my comfort zone I’m glad he does.

Friday was just as much fun…well for me it was.

Friday was just spent cuddling together. ^_^

All of last week though I was super boring while I was finishing up the last bits of my pirate costume. My computer was on the whole time so I could catch up on Supernatural episodes. I’ve finally made it to season 8, but the video I have for episode 5 won’t play on my computer for some reason!!! =_= Which means…I don’t know. It just bums me out.

Though the good thing is I enjoyed season 7 a lot more then I did season 6. Season 6 just seemed like it was the “okay we have to do this” season.

I do know I won’t be able to catch up totally by the time the new season starts, which is going to suck for me because I was planning on starting to watch it again.

Since I guess I’ve run out of Supernatural episodes to watch I’m going to hopefully watch The Raven at some point this week. I’ve had it for so long but I just haven’t felt like watching it.

So this week I’m back to costume working. This time it’s for my Halloween costume. I’m not going to say what I’m going to be until I finish the costume. I did have to sit and rework a skirt pattern for this costume due to the layers and such. Ugh. It was a headache. Good thing is the top of the costume I have my mom willing to help me at least do the major parts to do and I’ll have to do all the small pieces, which are the pieces that will take the longest – that’s why I’m starting on it this week.

I won’t totally be working on it nonstop though because I will be fitting in time to work on an apron a friend ordered from me. I have to have it mailed by the first week of November – which I should have no problem with doing it. I am kind of excited to do the fabric shopping for it.

I know Cherry Delights has been a very slow process when it comes to being able to do online ordering and such, but we’re almost there! ^_^ It’s been a lot of hard work and by the end of October – or sooner – it will all be ready! I re-took pictures of some of the first items that will be offered too – mainly earrings, hair ties and custom purses. I sat working on the logo last night and I know a lot of people won’t like it, but I freaking love it.

Talking about logo, I changed the layout! I’m sure it will be a 50/50 shot of people like it due to the fact that there’s a graphic of myself on the header. I think it’s more of me then the last layout was. I know a lot of people have a “tag line” for their blogs…I’ve been trying to think of one but I just can’t think of one that really fits me or my blog.

Tonight seems like a hot tea and hand sewing kind of night. ^_^

The weather has turned to fall and I’m not ready for it. I won’t have my quilt on my bed so I’m a little cold at night. I plan to get it on my bed tomorrow though.

I guess the only good thing about fall is the fact that it’s okay to lay in bed, watch TV (or movies) and work on little things. ^_^ During the summer if you say that’s how you’re spending a night people think you’re odd, but during cold nights it’s perfectly fine.

Today I did cut out like 100 bows to sew…I’m pretty sure it’s not 100 but it looks like it when they’re all laying in pieces. I only have six finished.

It’s happy time

Festival Food

Last night, to my great surprise, I was kidnapped. Okay not the usual “kidnapped” it was planned and I was very excited when I got the texts about it all. ^_^

Jason picked me up late last night, and I was beyond happy to see his face. We sadly don’t live that close to each other, but at least he’s not in another state or two hours away. When you look at the drive between the two cities, it’s honestly not that bad. And usually every other weekend I’m in his city with friends at the hookah place, so that’s a bright spot in it all. And well…I enjoy every moment I spend with him. He’s such a sweet guy – along with funny and a little nerdy. I’m so glad  we started talking when we did. He’s a total keeper.

But anyways as I said he picked me up late last night. I took the night Planet Terror (2007) [LINK] and we watched it. I admit, it had been a while since I seen the movie so there were a couple pieces of the film I didn’t remember. And it still makes me a little sad that out of the two Grindhouse films I liked Death Proof (2007) [LINK]. I mean in theory Planet Terror is a “zombie” film…and well I fucking love zombie films. To me Planet Terror was just missing a little something.

We ended up staying up until like 6am, which wasn’t the best idea but I know I didn’t care. I enjoy spending time with him even at that early in the morning. ^_^

This morning we spent it at the Italian American Festival in Dover. I haven’t been there in nearly 5 years and it was smaller then it used to be. We sat and watched a couple of the girls from a dance school in town perform. We also grabbed something to eat (picture above). And I think it’s some kind of law that if you go to a festival and there’s a lemonade stand you can’t leave until you have lemonade.

It’s kind of like at the county fair, I can’t leave without having fries and lemonade. That’s really one of the reasons I even go to the fair any more. Though I’m sure I’ll be going with my niece at some point, and I’m going to talk Jason into going at some point because it’s always a good time when you’re there with someone you enjoy.

I guess a lot of people have noticed how much happier I’ve been over the past couple weeks. I think I have a great reason to be happy. ^_^

Also, check out TaV for reviews of the films I’ve been watching lately.

Movies and sewing

So last weekend there was the large sale at the fairgrounds. I go every year for the pure fact of not being sure what you’ll find. This year I didn’t really find much at all. I did get a cute little vintage suitcase – with going to cons I need something extra plus my skirts won’t fit in my train case.

I also picked up some clothes. I totally have nothing wrong with wearing second hand clothing. Most of the time the clothing is being put in the “get rid of” pile because it’s not “cool” any more. Well I never care about being cool.

I picked up a Hello Kitty skirt, a great little brown jacket, some random t-shirts…and a dress. Turns out the dress is from H&M. The dress is a babydoll style dress, black and white, with 3/4 length sleeves – it will be right around knee length on me. I honestly can’t wait to wear it because it’s going to be perfect to layer for the winter. ^_^

Bluebird

Finally, here’s a better picture of that painting I took a couple weeks to work on. I’m still looking for the perfect frame though. I think I’m being too picky. All the frames I have on my walls are black and I’d just really like to have it in a black frame. I guess since the new fad is bright colors I may have a hard time finding one.

Brave (2012)

Last night I finished watching Brave (2012) [LINK]. I started it Tuesday but wasn’t able to finish it. It was a pretty good movie, I’m just not a huge fan of  the “Princess” movies. But the good thing is, my niece finally sees a “princess” like her. She has a red tint to her hair and it’s super curly. Sometimes in pictures it doesn’t show up very well. A friend said I should make her Halloween costume the girl from the movie.

The Last Exorcism: Part II

I also finally watched The Last Exorcism: Part II (2013) [LINK]. I enjoyed it! If you only know one thing about me, it’s usually the fact that I like exorcism movies a great deal. When the first film came out, well leading up to the release, I was getting so excited over an exorcism film that looked good coming out. Don’t get me wrong there was been other exorcism films in the 2000s but for the most part, they didn’t hit the mark. The Last Exorcism is one of my favorites in general, and part II is as well. I did love the ending.

Wilfred

The other thing I’ve been working my way through is the TV show Wilfred [LINK]. The reason I started watching it is due to the fact Saturday night Jason and I watched a couple episodes – they were so funny. So when I got home I got season one and season two. Right now I’m half way finished with season two. And since season three is airing now it just gives me time to start on Workaholics [LINK]. I’ve seen a couple episodes, but they were mid-season- not sure what season. So I’m going to give it a try from the start. I have season one and two.

This is going to seem very odd, but what are some pig movies? I mean piggy pig, not cop pig. My niece is in love with pigs and I’ve been trying to find some movies with pigs. I already know Babe (1995) [LINK]. Also keep in mind she’s two, so anything longer then about an hour and 20 minutes and she’s out of the room.

I found myself a film that seems very interesting. It’s not a horror film like I normally watch though, surprise! It’s called About Cherry (2012) [LINK]. I’m hoping to be able to watch it sometime this week/weekend.

Yes, I’ve been spending a lot of time watching movies. But at the same time I’ve been getting things done!

I finished my petticoat, well it’s finished being sewn. I still have to play with the layers and cut them so they’re just right. Both skirts are totally finished. I have yet to even start on the tops. But my thought is to take my sewing machine with me to the craft event next weekend so I’ll have something to do so I’m not sitting there bored out of my mind for three days.

As far as things for the craft event, I’m about 50% finished on the aprons I’m making. Right now I’m just working on the gathered half apron styles. I am making a special crayon apron for my niece – I found farm animal fabric…there are pigs on it. All the other aprons are cut out and ironed. I’m to the point of sewing the pockets for the crayons. Which after I do that it should only take about 10 minutes more to finish them. The ones I’m going to make for boys are not going to be gathered, but they will end up to have less pockets on them.

A friend also ordered a full apron. This will be a first for me,  but it doesn’t seem very hard to do. She’s going to pay me for it Friday so I can pick the fabric up over the weekend. Tomorrow I’m going to take my lace to the coffee shop to at least let her pick the lace out. She wants a black apron with white lace. Which should be easy to do – but we’ll see.
